I’ve been looking for a job on Craigslist because people told me that Craigslist is good as a job source. I beg to differ. I have applied to more than a hundred listings in the past year and the huge majority of them are scams. What do you think.

Craiigslist as a job source could work. I think I would like to hear how you define a scam, so that we can understand from where you are coming. I would need an example of your experience to know if it was a scam.

Craigslist is a waste of time.

Most ads are from employment agencies and if by chance there are a few legitimate jobs, they are offering a starting range of $8-10 hourly.

Don't waste your time.

When I temped for an employment agency, they used Craigs to post for permanent jobs and we were always told to offer $12-15 hourly but had to talk down to $10hourly and these were jobs that would last a max of 3 months with the same employers seeking to fill the same position continuously so that they did not have to offer any benefits or future.

What types of jobs are you applying for? If they are home-based type things, the lister is not always aware of how the listee behaves...

Heck no - I would never apply for home-based anything. That is an obvious scam. I am looking for an office manager/administrative assistant/secretarial job. Most of those take you to other websites to apply and if you follow their instructions you have to register at their site, then click through page after page of advertisements! Also, numerous clerical type positions get flagged by the members. Craigslist isn’t as good as a job source as Monster or Americas Job Bank.

Check the forums at Craig's List and you'll see page after page of people complaining about the same thing.

Sometimes I respond to an ad and they email back saying that it will only cost me x amount of money to get more information or training. The examples are as numerous as the ads. Craigslist as a job source is not too good for me.

Bottom line for jobs on craigslist- your going to do a lot more searching than finding, and if you do find something the chances of this being a great career are slim to none. Most of your higher paying jobs aren't posted in classifieds or anything where anyone can apply. Monster.com is the best way to find a good job online. Other than that the only way to really find a long lasting high paying job is to go to individual businesses and pick up applications, or go to individual companies' web sites and fill out an online application.

Have a great day!!!

I'm going back to honest shoe leather.

There is something to be said for the "old way" of doing business... and that includes finding a job.

Craigslist can be a good job source. I think what you have to do is spend time looking through out the Craig's List postings. There are scams, unfortunately, on every job site, but there are also good listings on Craig's List (as well as other sites).
