Hi

I have a disciplinary hearing tomorrow and wanted some advice

The hearing is for 3 points
- use of company email
- unsatisfactory standard of work with reference to the amount of employed time spent on non-work related matters
- unacceptable approach towards the required closer interaction with members of another another department

These serious concerns (as my boss puts it) are stemed from sending too many personal emails (which I wasnt aware I wasnt allowed to do) and being on the internet. However, this do not affect me getting my work done.

Does anyone have any advice on what i should say, what my boss will say and what the outcome is likely to be???

Thank you

In this day and age most employers simply assume that you should know that you shouldn't be using email and Internet services for anything other than work. That's why these things are monitored so closely. I would look in the employee handbook if I were you because it's probably stated somewhere in there. If it is stated then I hate to say it you'll probably lose your job. I've seen this happen before. Good luck!

I have some questions for you regarding this hearing:
1.Does your boss has something against you?
2.Are you are the only one in this situation?
3.Are the only one heared about this matters?
4.In the contract signed with the company is it stated such a matter of not sending mails from work?

Yep...HardWorkinMom put it quite straight to you and I agree to what she has stated....Most employers consider anything personal done during worktime...especially the use of internet/e-mail and the use of phones to be A WASTING OF PRECIOUS TIME...It doesn't matter to them that you have done your job well. Also...you should try answer some of Cip's questions, especially the one regarding whether you are the only one called to this "meeting".And think also about any co-worker who..let's say....dislikes you for whatever reason...or simply wants your job.
You can try to appologise during the meeting...but not show yourself huimiliated....Just stress that everything personal you have inserted during your working time has not affectedyour capacity to work and get things done. Stress that you didn't know this was wrong (but first take a ook at that employee's handbook, and if it's there, don't even mention this).
What else can I say? Good luck. You'll need it.

In the hearing don't apologise for anything. Ask them to prove that they have stated in your employment contract or company handbook etc that use of internet etc is not allowed at all. Many companies allow some moderate level of internet access.

Also take along samples of work and say to them that the company has benefited and will continue to benefit from the work that you do, so it is not in their interests to lose you.

Also say that 10 minutes rest every hour of work is healthy and allows you to produce more from your work than if you worked constantly all day.

I don't believe that having a confrunting attitude like Darren said because such an attitude will make you loose your job.I guess that the hearing will end up with you penalised with some money and atentionated to not make those mistakes anymore because they are mentionated in the contract.

be contrite and apologetic, and make a sincere effort to not repeat the behavior.seriously, you are there to work for the company, and follow the company rules.
