After-School Jobs for Teens

Rate this Entry
Summer is all but over, and schools all across the Northern Hemisphere are beginning their academic years--which means teenagers that want some extra income will need to find a job that fits in with their school schedule (and for most, one that doesn't require a ton of previous experience).

If you're one of these teens looking for the perfect after-school job, here are several ideas to help jump start your job search:

1) Clothing/retail stores - Clothing stores are usually busiest on weekends and need extra people to help with those shifts. They also tend to have evening shifts where employees help clean and restock the store to be ready for the next day.
2) Movie rental stores - A lot of business for movie rental stores happens in the evenings and on weekends. Some movie rental stores (usually the smaller ones) will even let you work on your homework in between helping customers, if there isn't stocking or cleaning to be done.
3) Movie theaters - Most people go to see movies in the evenings or on weekends--and that's when movie theaters need the extra employees. Also, you usually get to watch movies for free!
4) Babysitter - Lots of parents need someone to watch their children in the hours between school getting out and the parents getting home from work. Babysitting often pays better than other teenage jobs available.
5) Tutor - Tutoring someone after school for a few hours a week can be a great way to make some extra income without having to give up a lot of time. It also affords you some extra flexibility if you have to stay late one day at school--just remember to give the kids' parents as much warning as possible so they can reschedule.
