Have to agree this looks like the El Cheapo version of your old job, but the cut in pay is also consistent with the usual layoff cutbacks. Bear in mind "reasonable" in this case also relates to the reduced hours, so they can say it's not a cut in rates, just volume, and the pay has actually gone "up".
It does look a bit too calculated. There's no certainty there won't be another round of cutbacks, either. Layoffs and restructuring tend to go together, and this penny pinching approach looks like someone's been sweating over a hot spreadsheet for a while.
But:
Question: 4 days a week, could you do school and still have a bit more than UE? Can the new job meaningfully support you while you study?
I also agree that if you want to go back to school, upgrade your qualifications, etc, that needs to be thought through as part of your decision. A go nowhere job doesn't really stack up against that.
That said, if you can't get a grant, you might find it difficult to do that. The new job could be a backup, despite appearances. You could do online or part time courses, etc.
Whatever you decide, make sure you can still do your school stuff, whatever happens. That's the only guarantee of moving forward you can get out of this situation. |
