Hiya, I would like some advice please. I recently got a new job as a pharmacy assistant/technician. I had been working retail for the last 10 years and was desperate to get out and try something new and with more prospects. I was so happy when I got this new job. I thought it was my future combining retail and health care and I could train up as far as I wanted.
I started on Monday. Its only been 3 days but I really dont like it. I hate waking up in the morning. The people I work with dont really speak to me since they are busy doing their own work. (I heard that a couple of the technicians have worked there over 20yrs so maybe they just dont bother with new starters anymore). There is little atmopshere and Im kind of on my own in the shop section but dont have anyone to really train me. The pharmacist does bits of training here and there but mostly I just get training manuals to read for hrs on end. Since its so quiet I dont get chance to practice things and so It makes it hard to learn.
Its so quiet with hardly any customers. I am used to a busy environment.
Basically I want advice on whether you think Its the job and people that I really dont like or whether its just because I am new and feel unsure, unconfident and like I dont know anything. I feel like I dont contribute anything. Am i being to hard on myself? Its only been 3 days i guess but I want to know what im doing so i dont have to bother anyone. Also i found out that a woman who started as a technician a week before me didnt come back after her second day!
Should I give it more time? How long before I know whether its going to wrk or not? HELP!!! My heads spinning

Sounds like it could be the environment and it being different from what you are accustomed to. What you might do is mention that you learn better by doing and ask if you can put any of the training you have received into action. That might get you interacting with the others and make you less bored in the process.
