hi cvtips,

Our management is introducing flexitime, this might seem a good thing at first. But I suspect otherwise.

Our work involves coming in at 7:00am and leaving at 16:00, the bulk of the work is between 15:00 and 16:00 most of the time we end up staying till 18:00 or even 19:00. With our dear employer having to pay overtime.

There plans with flexitime are to make us take a 3 hour lunch break and then to make us stay till 19:00 without overtime.

Anybody else been in this situation, what can we do ?

thanks

What you're describing isn't flexitime!

Flexitime is a system where you work the same amount of hours as always but are able to choose when to start and finish within a set time frame. For example, the flexi hours may be 0800 - 1900. If you have an 8 hour day, you could work 0800 - 1600 or 1000 - 1800. You might choose to have a longer lunch break and work 1000 - 1900 instead.

I really don't know the rules around flexitime and how many hours an employer can force an employee to take as a break but if you contact "Job Centre Plus" or the "CAB", they should be able to advise you.

I certainly wouldn't just accept it without looking into the matter first.
