Members

As most of you probably know, I'm a pro writer. When I see anything called "Writing Services", my instinct is to be extremely suspicious. When they're paid services, I get even more suspicious. Some of the absolute garbage on the net is so bad that "Writing Disservices" would be a much better description.

Encouraged by the fact that Ivy Eyes Editing didn't start by posting a shipload of typos like so many do, I checked out their site.

These guys aren't cheap, they're in the upper brackets for charges. They also charge for assessments of papers, so this is a bona fide offer for members, as far as I can see.

Their Terms of Service, for once in my experience, are well written, including this informative quote:

Intellectual Property:

Quote:
Our clients retain sole copyright, ownership and control over all materials submitted to us for proofreading and editing, including any documents subsequently created or developed by us and/or our editors. All writing submitted to and edited by our contracted staff remains the intellectual property of the original author. Clients are asked to reference us as their editor/editing service but are NOT required to do so. For additional information on US Copyrights, visit: Copyright Office Basics. Additional information can also be found at the World Intellectual Property Organization.

That's exactly what's supposed to be there. That'll reassure any writer on the planet, particularly commercial writers. There are also good privacy statements.

The site is clearly laid out, another novelty, and you can actually find what you're looking for without an astrologer.

The heart and soul of the site, explaining how this service works, is in the Samples, which are Before and After texts: http://www.ivyeyesediting.com/our-samples This alone could be very helpful to some of our members, particularly the self employed people, because it contains a real rarity: A properly written press release that doesn't look like a raffle after a long lunch during a nuclear war. If you've ever wondered what a decent rewrite of a press release looks like, this is it. (It's on the PR heading on that page link.)

The comparisons between originals and the critiques show some real polish. There's even a philosophy paper with a literate critique, perhaps more literate than most critics.

The important thing for members is that if you're not a pro writer, and you're not confident about your writing, this is very helpful, constructive, criticism. The overall style is that of at least one professional writer, trying to create a meaningful response. I didn't read any evidence of a formula response to these documents, so much as consistency in approach. (Yes, I got a bit forensic while checking this site out. The samples even checked out on Copyscape, and on a direct text search.)

Academic writing is often a serious scam, so I made a point of checking out the philosophy paper while I was at it. This isn't the usual recycled rubbish, but comprehensive critiques. If you want to read a polite, friendly, constructive rebuttal of a philosophy paper, this is where you can tell the difference between crud and cream:

http://www.ivyeyesediting.com/samples/Philosophy%20Paper-After.pdf

The academic scams couldn't write that on a bet. That critique is far more valuable than Rent An Essay will ever be. It points out the problems, before you get that soul destroying fatal F you've always wanted. Academic, PR and other forms of writing can be very demanding, particularly if you're not used to them and trying to battle your way through. Don't assume you're going to do a brilliant first draft. There's no such thing. Useful critiques, even if expensive, are likely to be a lot less expensive than a well documented mess with your name on it.

In many ways, this is a form of training, because the responses are explanatory, and objective. It's often worth getting a neutral opinion on your work, particularly when there's some obvious talent with attached intellects replying.

CV Tips can't endorse products or services, but we can say that this site is a good benchmark for quality, and worth a look on that basis alone. If you're new to writing any business documents, this could be just what you need to see.

Another interesting point is that I checked and found no complaints about scams regarding this site. That's almost a first, so I'm a lot happier about giving a positive review about the site.

We appreciate the offer to our members, and the opportunity for them to check out a professional approach to this work.

Thank you, Paul. We sincerely appreciate your feedback as well as the time spent navigating our site.

We are pleased that you can also see that our editors are committed to the writing process itself, evidenced by their thorough, constructive critiques. We genuinely enjoy our work and the opportunity to help clients strengthen their skills.

To that end, the free assessment helps us to demonstrate what makes us different: our process and our level of impact. We encourage this community to take advantage of this offering, and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Most sincerely,

Ivy Eyes Editing

It's not often I can write a review like that. I work on the basis of members' best interests, and set the bar as high as it can go. Excellent standard of work there, good to see.
