Well I am getting that bit nearer to going to College as a mature very mature student to try and get a teaching qualification in advice and guidance. UK is not brilliant for courses and they say that the 7407 is going to be taken off and John Moores University are putting forward three qualifications called - wait for it - Petal, Kettle and Dettol certificates - not sure whether I beleived the Career advisor when he told me this but really nothing would surprise me in this country anymore.
Doing well with the level 2 english and maths - making some headway there and writing my second manual on job success so all is not lost!
Will let you know what happens when I get that elusive interview for the college...if it ever happens..fingers crossed - i need that advice and guidance certificate badly |

You'll get it, I'm sure.
How funny were those titles, huh? Seriously...kettle? But who knows nowadays?
I have a friend in the UK and she's pretty happy with the UK courses. She's more unsatisfied with the teaching techniques and teachers, but the courses look allright she told me. I got my hands on one of those teaching courses and they are quite comprehensive. Yet, the questions at the end of the module were evasive and the teacher asked initially for something and then changed his mind, saying this is not what the task is requesting.
Anyway, good luck! |

Hi Julian
The courses (when you can get on them) are good in UK, well they used to be.
I am studying for my advice and guidance certificate but doing some pre college work to get me further on as it may not come off and I may be left high and dry, but who knows.
I cant believe they came up with Petal, Kettle and Dettol certificates they must have been drunk I think. My jaw dropped when the guy on the phone told me what they were replacing the cuty & guilds certificate with but i shouldn't have been surprised really everything is going to pot in the UK.
Will let you know how I get on at a later date... |

Haha....now I'm laughing...
All I have to say, and I'm sorry, I'm no racist or whatever, is that the Western European countries have somehow managed to get into the superficial just as the fellow Americans have taught them.
I'm amazed at how different the education is perceived!
I mean...A kid in the second grade in my country knows what a kid in the seventh grade in UK and America knows. This is outragous if you aske me, taking into consideration the level of the economy in my country is under...so under the level of the economy of the mentioned countries.
And you worry about the courses not being good
Well...bravo. You've managed to see THE PHENOMENAAAA

Hi Safri
I know it probably seems trivial to mention the courses in UK when some countries do not have a proper education system in place. But the UK is supposed to have high standards but they have slippsed and fallen off the chart.
I know they are better than in some countries but as I don't live there I cant comment on those countries and what their levels of courses or education is.
But I do sympathise with you. In UK it is a jailable offence if you do not send your child to school, but trying to get on courses in UK is damn near impossible WHY?
The standards of UK have definetely dropped but compared to some countries it probably does seem that we have a higher economy but try telling that to people who live IN the country (UK) they would disagree - but I see your point Safri. |
