Is it legal for a company to fire an employee after he/she has given notice
of resignation

I think it is legal, unfortunately. Wow, what an unusual turn of events though. Did they give you a good explanation as to why they fired you? This is why sometimes I warn people on the forum about resigning carefully. Bosses can go crazy and something like this can happen. Bright side is that you could always file for unemployment if you don't have another job lined up right away.

Really sorry to hear it, sure it was not anything you did but more their reaction. What a bad boss.
