Hi. I am stuck in a bit of a rut so i was looking for someplace i could receive some good piece of advice, i hope i can find it here.

I am an undergrad student in Karachi, Pakistan. I am in one of the top two universities for business, but i am not fully committed to what i am doing there. It is not as if i am not hardworking, but i have never performed well in school-type environments. Maybe it is my own fault, but i am not as motivated because this was not my first option, but due to the factor that i had gotten into one of the best universities in the country, i could not give up on the opportunity. And i am still grateful for the opportunity.

But due to my underperformance i feel demotivated and at time am faced with low self-esteem. But recently i have found a field i want to commit to, actuarial sciences. This is something i know i can do, as i can perform with a certain focus which is not there in general management. And i can handle both, but due to my family's financial situation, i need to get a part-time job as well. I have two more years to graduate, but if i do not begin actuarial sciences now, at slower pace ofcourse, i will not be able to experiment later as fresh graduates have the only best opportunities to gain MT positions.

What would be your best advice for me?

I think staying in a career path and pursuing something that your heart is not in is a mistake. Often times people will make excuses for themselves and explain it as they think the money will make up for their lack of passion for the job, or that maybe their attitude will change over time. Usually, it just does not happen. You are lucky enough to realise this is not the career path for you while you are still in the schooling phase so other than adding a bit more time onto your schooling, there is not a lot to worry about. Go with the change, and see if you are more optimistic about your future. I am sure you will be.

This is a very hard question to answer.
What are your options?

Recently I published an article on this subject, do you quit becuase you are un-happy ?

To me it sounds like you have a very good opportunity. You are in a good university, and you are a good student.

Have a look around you, what do people without education do ? What is there life style ? Are you ready to be one of them ?

Of course you can still succeed without any eduaction but is it harder ? Do you need to be luckier ?

Have a think, and let us know what you decide.
