Amy
Get a job in retail sales. That will help you develop your acting skills, since you will be "acting" as a sales agent. Lexa mentioned some good places to start looking for work.
Have you talked to any professional actors? If you really want to be an actor, you need to seek out actors and find out how they got into the business. See if one will let you follow him/her around for a day, so you can see if it’s what you really want. Ask them what schooling they had and what they recommend. Talk to the directors and find out what makes an actor more hirable.
Don’t approach the directors looking for a job right now. Tell them that you are interested in acting and want to learn more before making a final decision. Most people like to talk about what they do.
You might be surprised that your idea of college is not what gets actors hired. The actors and the directors are the experts. The directors are doing the hiring, so listen to what they have to say. They might recommend a specific acting school over another.
In talking to the actors and directors you might find a job in a theater. Even cleaning the floors and emptying the trash gets you in the door. That would get you closer to the people that you need to talk to. A good work ethic doing simple jobs will be noticed and appreciated, and will lead to better jobs.
Also, in order to present yourself as a professional looking for serious work, you need to work on your written expression, and possibly your verbal expression. Communication in the business world requires good grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and using the proper form of words. Save the shorthand for talking to your friends! |

In such cases, you should be having a job in the city before reaching there...It is difficult in the initial stage of relocation to find a job...
