I have been filling out job applications recently and they have these questions on them:

Give us an example of what you have done to build good team spirit when working with others. Please indicate details of what you did how you contributed personally to the outcome and what you learned.

Please explain where and when you have recieved the best customer service and the key reasons why it was so good,

What is your biggest achievement so far? Please describe what obstacles setbacks you have had to overcome to achieve this?

I was wondering if anybody could tell me what these sort of questions are these are called and thebest way to answer them?

Thank you

Oh those are delicious questions, I wish a recruited would send me those!! Smile

In addition to your language skills, my interpretation is that they are hoping to predict your behaviour in future team roles. If I am correct, there are no right or wrong answers to these wonderful questions Smile

However, I tentatively suggest that these questions represent an ineffective test that should not be applied to new applicants simply because behaviour changes between social settings. Consequently, your behaviour in previous teams will be different to your behaviour in the firm's emerging team. Having said that, you have to play their silly game.

In the first question, they want to predict your team role. For example, if your friends burned down a school gym, the recruiter would like to know your contribution to that event. Did you suggest the idea? Did you select the site and time? Did you purchase the materials? Did you break the windows? Did you transport and strategically position materials? Did you light the match match? Did you cover back and keep watch? What did you do to document the event?

Note that if you like doing everything by yourself, you would not want to work for a company with other people! Consequently, all you need to do is identify your contributions, and separate them from other people's contributions (my emphasis). In doing this, your answer will disclose to recruiters the exact team role(s) that you prefer!

For the second question, they might hope to measure your emotional disposition and they have made it easier by concentrating on good experiences. This leads to the question, are you anxious or calm? You can address part of this concern in your language. Specifically, write your answers on a separate sheet, sleeping on it or go for a walk, and revising the answers at a later time when your mind has refreshed. I would suggest telling them a story in which you were positive and calm because it is unlikely that they are looking for a nervous wreck.

The third question combines the previous two. It is looking at your team role and your emotional disposition.

Remember, there is no right or wrong answer because a good team involves many different types of people. They only want to know which type of person you are.

I hope this helps, but please note, I am not a recruiter and I might be wrong.

P.S. Pick topics that are not illegal Smile
