Joining a construction crew isn't necessarily easy. There are a few things which are simpler than others, but the story is this:
Day labor is hired by construction sites in some, but not all, cases. In many cases, forget it, because the site manager and/ or union may have specific requirements about labor.
To work as a regular on a construction crew, you need basic training and skills. Some of these jobs look simple, if you just look at the basic tasks, but they all fit into wider skill sets. This training is from the ground up, apprentice- type jobs, and you also need to be trained in site safety by law. In many cases without a safety certificate they won't even let you on the site.
By the way- Take the safety stuff very seriously, because constructions sites really are dangerous places, and that's why they're so strict about the safety regs. If you see any construction employer who's slack about it, you've found an idiot, and someone who usually doesn't pay workers compensation. Avoid sites like that like the plague.
You can do worse than get into the construction industry, particularly during the booms. The money can be excellent, particularly if you go up the scale. The work isn't mindless grunt stuff, and it is actually interesting, working with the new constructions. It's also a very good portable skill set for finding work in things like renovations, fittings, etc. |

| thanks for the reply - but mindless job is exactly what I want - a job in which I get to think of anything I like. a slacker job that meets my needs but doesn't require focus is what I want. |

You don't read too mindless to me, I must say, from your posts. Check out a low level government job, something like data entry, one trick wonder work, no particular requirement for personal involvement beyond being there and doing what needs doing. Shelf stacking, lower level warehouse or stores work, should do it.
Obviously you've got your own criteria, but avoid Rip Van Winkle mode on the career options. |

| The toughest part about getting into a construction crew is to find someone to hire you. Labors make very little. If you are willing to work for peanuts, you will be able to get into a crew if you would like. |

| don worry bout school if your interest is in construction, matter of fact your the perfect candidate because your not in school... Just get a news paper... Look up a job in construction hiring entry level laborer's and go to work, in a couple months you'll move up if your a decent worker, and from there the sky is the limit. Construction workers are a dime a dozen. It's not rocket science.....just go be a construction worker, you don't need any schooling, just be a hard worker. Seriously you think you need to go to school or something to hold a hammer? Hit a nail, pick up debris, dig a hole, saw some wood.... And yes people will say measurements and what not... You'll learn that along the way. |
