Hi everybody,

Here is my story and I really need some good advice ASAP.
I used to work for a local government organization for 6 years. After six years of working I resigned because I had to move to Europe. I stayed in excellent relationship with my collegues and my manager. I lived and worked in Europe for about year and a half and than I returned back to the USA (same city as before). I found a job very quickly, but I was not satisfied with it at all so I resigned. After several months I got another job with the same government organization where I worked before I moved to Europe but with the different department. I was completly disappointed with that job too, so I resigned with no regret. Working within that other department I was constantly in touch with my ex-bosses and my ex-collegues. Last week I had a phone calls form few of my ex-collegues to let me know that there is a great probability that they will have 2 job openings which are a perfect match to what I worked there for 6 years. I was really happy about that and I am ready to go, and have a word with my ex-manager and my ex-director of the department. I am so exiceted about the whole issue that I am afraid to even start the conversation with my ex-bosses. Please, give me some good advice how to start a conversation with them and how to convince them to "open the door" for me again. BTW, I have to stop by their offices due to some other business not related to any kind of job opening. That would be a great excuse to talk to them.
Hellllppppp!!!

I would say just to bite the bullet and call them asap. You clearly have experience and dedication so you would be an ideal candidate. Also you would be less of a risk having worked there.

Thanks a lot Chris 2289. Yes, I think I have to "bite a bullet" and try my best since there is nothing to loose. If they want me they will take me back, if not nothing could be done any ways. I know that from my initial conversation I will not get much as an answer since the managers always tend to give you too general responds where you cannot conclude much from. That uncertainity "kills me".... :(

I think this is a perfect example of leaving a job in good terms. Many people would love to tell their boss to stick it when they leave but it is never a good idea to burn bridges.

WOW-today i had a nice conversation with my ex-director. I was really nervous, but semed relaxed during the conversation. Also, I was very sincere with him as well. I told him I really regret I left to Europe and i if I would get an opportunity to get my old job back I would assure them that I will stay on that job for a long time. I said that there was not better enviroment where I ever worked in, and my advantege would be the fact that I do not need to be retrained as well as I know how the whole organization works. Than he said that due to lot of budget cuts only one position which will be open and it is already assigned for the promotion within the department. He asked me if I would be ready to take the position after the person who will be promoted which would be one step down for me compering the position I held before. Also, he asked me why I left the previous department where I stayed only for two and a half months. I said i did not like the job and I tought it would work out somehow but it did not. He said it does not look good but I responded that we all make mistakes sometimes and we learn from them too. I said I liked the job I had with my ex-department much more and that is a place where I would always be back rather tha anywhere else. He said I should apply if they will have an opening for the job but again, due to lot of budget cuts he is not sure if : first they will have any new position and second he is not sure if they will cut even that position next year. I said I will certenly apply and i asked him I I could call him if that position will be opened. He said :"off course you can". After that we ended our conversation with a hug.

What do you think guys?

Thanks
