I am looking for some icebreakers for Staff Meetings, that could ease the tension and loosen tongues. Something that would people feel more at ease and will encourage them to speak and discuss the work issues in our department

My team is from a very wide range age group, and I do feel that the generation gap is a communication obstacle. So some icebreakers at the begining for staff meetings.

Any icebreaker tips cvtips.com experts ?

A good idea for icebreakers for Staff Meetings :

Tell the people round the table in the conference room to number of in a group of four or five people. A person starts from 1 the next 2 etc ... the one after no 5 starts from 1 again. Teams would be all 1's together all 2's together etc ...

The newly formed groups have to find something in common with the other members of the group. Nothing related to clothing or body parts.

The reading of the lists always produces smiles and laughter.

What I'd say is do something like this, call it a food day. Have everyone bring a food dish to pass or some sort of food, or else you bring all the food in for the workers.

How about....Say chips and dips, say cookies, say cheese, say pizza, say healthy foods and say chocolate, say sub sandwiches, say fruit.

Alright people walk into the meeting, they are bringing in their food and they hope everyone will like what food they brought, they walk in happy and hungry and eager to eat and eager to enjoy conversation while sitting with their soda or coffee cup in their hand, or fruit juice, sit down with a big plate full of food and just sit and talk automatically about things that are of interest to them.

THEN after the people had a chance to talk about things and after they are fed and willing to listen, as they had their immediate needs met, THEN talk about whatever issues you'd like to at the office.

Does this help? Have a FOOD DAY every few months, perhaps when it can be combined with holidays or with birthdays, or some other social event.

Food draws people out and brings people out and brings people together.

Meetings can tend to be scarey and avoided and very boring, so don't even call it a meeting at all.

I think you should begin the meeting with a question, like "what 3 people, living or dead would you like to take to dinner?" or "what is in your cd player right now?" or "what is your pet peeve?" or "what would you like your final meal to be?'

Everyone gets a chance to learn a little about a coworker that they may not realize. This can unify the most diverse groups and really break the ice. It definitely helps everyone get to know each other on a different level.
