I want to share with you 3 advices I received when I started my internet home base business. I hope you'll benefit from them as much as I benefited myself. Please note however that these are quite technical and useful only for those people with good internet knowledge. So don't read further if that's not for you.

Today I'll present you the first advice from the three I previously mentioned.

Don't compete with thousands of players! Find new markets and niches!

I saw a lot of people trying to enter an already full crowded market - like dating, financials, gambling or advertising. And they all failed. And that was because they could never fight with the big players on the market which had way larger budgets. Instead of this way may restrict our target population to a sector where the competition is lower and where we can make a name for ourselves - a nice market!

Let's take an example - let's presume you want to do an internet home business, related with "personals ads".
Let's do a search on Google for "personals ads" (using quoting). We'll found more than 40.000.000 competitors (search results). That's a lot of competition - honestly I doubt any one of us can realistic dream of beating all these people.
Let's try to restrict our targeted audience to only Christians. So let's search for "Christian’s personals ads". The competition is down to only 10.500 sites. That's a completely different thing, isn't it?

However a few questions may rise... how we can imagine these markets; how do we know if there are enough people interested of these.
The faster and easier solution for me is to think at my main theme and a population category "young/old; man/women; living in...; smokers; drinkers; etc).

There are also some simple automated techniques to find profitable niches for your business - using different free software. The one I recommend is "Good Keywords" software which can be downloaded from http://www.goodkeywords.com. When using it try to find keywords with a high number of searches, but in the mean time with a low number of pages (competition). The ratio between these two values determines the profitability of that specific keyword.

Now create a service or a product around the most profitable keyword you found, and you know that you're on a successful road.
