Hi, I am new to the forums so if I post this in the wrong thread, I am sorry.
I am trying to get onto an apprenticeship scheme and have just been informed that at the assessment day I will need to deliver a 5 minute pitch :O .
The pitch is about why I applied for the apprenticeship and what it means to me.
But to drag that out for 5 minutes (although I guess that is the max time indication), seems a bit much.
So I come to you to ask,
What points should I bring up?
How to present the pitch?
Other general tips?
Thanks for any advice, will all be greatly appreciated. |

Your pitch needs to deal with:
1. Why you want the apprenticeship,
2. What your personal interest in the field is,
3. What you've done to get your skills,
4. What sort of career you want.
That's what they want to know, and what they need to know. Granting an apprenticeship figures out for them as getting someone who's going to stick with it, and be worth the effort they have to put in.
(They get a lot of dropouts, which is a truly dumb move, because apprenticeships are pure gold for people who make it.)
They also need to see a credible effort on the part of the applicants to actually show some interest, skills and ability.
You're not doing badly, just to get this assessment.
You may find those five minutes aren't long enough.
Presentation:
Most important: Stay on topic.
Time: Those four points above give you 95 seconds, each.
You may want to breathe during the assessment, so call it 90.
Not long, when you're trying to explain what you want to do with your life.
Content: Think about what you're going to say, rehearse it if necessary, but make sure you know what you're trying to tell them, like a story, so they see where you want to go, and why. |
