Hi All,

I want you people advice. I am planning to learn ITIL Service Management as per my friend's advice.

Is it a good course to learn?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Kalyogi,

The best answer I can give to your question is to ask yourself....have I seen any jobs requesting or requiring ITIL Service Management.

I've been involved with ITIL for about 4 years now and hold 2 certificates in V2 and V3 ITIL. Most of my expereince with ITIL came about through my current job - however it was not a requirement when I applied. When I took the job my boss told me that I should get ITIL certified because I could pretty much write my ticket to any company I wanted with it.What a load of BS!

To date I have only ever seen 1 job add that mentioned ANYTHING to do with ITIL. Don't get me wrong - understanding ITIL is a good idea - but there are far better options to examine first.

The problem with ITIL is that it is not a standard, it's just a set of best practices, and as such just doesn't hold much value to an organization. They are more concerned with getting ISO certified and implementing cost effective practices than "best" practices.

Other's may disagree with me, but whatever you decide - make sure you understand what it is that your getting into and whether or not current employers want people with those skills. In my expereince - most couldn't care less whether you know ITIL.

Hi,

Its really very helpful reply. I was in confusion to do the course and that made me to ask the community about it.

Thanks.
