I've got a few questions for you guys.
Been work at this company in the Role Tide State (Google it) for about 1 year now.
Got called into the office yesterday and told because of low #'s they will be removing my hourly wage and placing me on straight commission. Business has been steadily falling since the beginning of the year, and people where constantly being let go, so I guess I should have seen it coming.
But anyway, they said that I'll get two weeks to improve the sales or I will be let go after than on a commission only wage.
Now onto the questions. If you need me to elaborate on anything...feel free to ask.
1) First one is Do I get fired or quit? I'm prepared to ride this one out.
2) Would unemployment be base off the commission or my regular salary before I was let go?
3) From salary to commission only, there was no commission only position when I got hired, can they do that?
4) Are they just messing with our heads just waiting for us to quit?
5) Can I go into the office and Say I refuse the proposal and get fired....or do i stick it out?
Not sure where to go with this one, so maybe you can help.
Thanks! |

Unemployment will most likely not be a help to you, as they will say that you still have some form of income. You might be able to get assistance after a time if your income level is too low, however. If you are prepared to ride it out, then do not quit yet. See what happens next. I really do not think that your company is bluffing. They could be overexaggerating their circumstances but lots of companies that have been around for decades, seling necessary services and products [like food, for example] are still struggling just because the economy in some areas is not so great. Set yourself some guidelines of what you are willing to accept and what makes the job unacceptable to you. Then, see what happens over the next few weeks. Hopefully, everything will be fine.
