Hi All,
As mentioned in my introductory post I'm looking into relocating to England.
I was thinking of writing to my previous employers as I know they have been advertising.I'm not in a position to start working yet though.
Now I'm not really sure of the correct etiquette when writing as I was always on first name terms with this recruitment person (he wasn't in this role when I knew him before) Also I haven't kept in touch with any of the people I used to work with either and he would only remember me by my maiden name.
So how do I write this "letter of interest?" Question

I would still address it in a formal manner, as "Dear Mr. XX" but make sure you mention your former connection not only to the company, but also to him too. Make it known that you are looking to rejoin the company and will be looking for a certain position too, if you have something specific in mind. Be as specific as possible and it may be to your advantage. But definitely make sure you call out that connection to the past in a way that is sure to jog the hiring manager's memory--hopefully in a good way.
