Lying is lying whether you get caught or not. Don't do it.

I don't think it would be against any law to lye on a resume, though it is definitely something you can get fired over. I remember a local case near where I live, where a college football coach was actually fired from his job, for listing one of his past coaching jobs as a head coaching job instead of an assistant coaching job. It was not discovered on the resume until a few years after he was hired, but even so, he was fired by the university. Not a good idea to risk your job over something on your resume.

I can think of several laws that could be broken.
Obtaining money or benefits by deception.
Fraud.
False pretences.

Plenty of jobs have legal requirements WRT licences and experience - almost all jobs in the building industry, for example, and elecrical work etc.

A good rule of thumb is to NOT lie on your resume. Chances are, you'll be found out, and terminated. And in this day and age, people do a lot more reference, background, and degree checks. It's one thing to add a month or so to pad out your resume, but outright lying is not good.
