| I have been off work for 6 months due to depression and fybromyalga which is preventing me from doing my job for 8hrs a day. I was released to go back to work on a reduced scheduled but now my disability insurance is done and I have maybe worked about 40 hours in a month. The issue is my hands will fall asleep and will not allow me to type which is the biggest part of my job it is uncontrolable and can last for hours even days not to mention that some days I am in extreme pain. I don't want to quit because I know I will not be able to get unemployment but should I talk with my employer which I have been employed there for 14years? Or at some point they will fire me but I also know how hard it is to get social security disability? I am out of money and just want to keep my home and put food on the table. Please help with advice please?????? |

Can't offer legal advice. Best bet is to go to your doctor and talk to them about it first.
You do not want to make it seem like you are giving your employer a hard-time. But if you do have a disability that is a serious issue. Most employers will take it seriously as the legal consequences for them can be very serious.
However, the disability laws are frequently changing...and some companies view them differently. Reasonable accommodation can be viewed as many different things.
If a person was to talk to a company stress they would need to stress that they love the job and want to be able to do it better. The person just wants to succeed regardless of this new disability that is affecting them.
That affected employee would need to "lay it on" that they like the job and are willing to work with them.
This is only if a person was to decide to do disclosure. Disability will not be valid though without documentation from doctors,etc.
There also many great resources out there... check out your local state disability office. They will have someone you can talk to and seek advice from. |
