Well,, I may have really screwed up.. I have been collecting UE in Illinois for two months and last week i took a job after the first two days I realized the details about the position and the reputation of the company was not what I was told durring the interview process.. A 4 week training class was suddenly a half a day and the company has a terrible reputation and considered a scam in the publishing industry ..
I guess i was so excited just to be going back to work that I didnt do the proper research.. I told them that I made a mistake and would just like to "walk away" without pay and they said ok.. but today i recieved a check for the day and a half I was there??
Is this going to screw up my benifits..??? I have a mortgage and really need the benifits provided? Im hoping to just report the small earnings and find a more suitable job for me or at least one that is not listed on ripoffreport.com like this one is.. any advice on what to do would be a major help here .
Thank you |

Overall, this would fit the description of an "unsuitable job" for UE purposes.
This is a glitch, in principle, rather than a screw up:
They misrepresented themselves to you in terms of their rep and their training schedule.
Ripoff Report may be a valuable asset in proving this employer isn't what they claim to be, and that your misgivings about the job were valid.
There may also have been other cases of people on UE in Illinois having similar experiences. I used to work in government, and repeated complaints and issues tend to attract attention from authorities. This may be something they already know about, given the pattern of misrepresentation. If they've got themselves a bad rep, this may be more of a problem for them than you.
For the record: Misrepresentation of terms of employment is a real no-no. It's false advertising in media, and can be considered a breach of employment laws in some cases. It can also be legitimate grounds for complaint to your local DLI. Whoever ran the job ad may be interested, too. |

Thnks so much for the tips.. so my normal certification day is this wednesday and I always recieve the funds on friday.
When I call to certify for benifits do i just report the funds I earned and the time (days) unavialbe for work? Will this automaticly deny me or will they be able to process benifits as normal (minus the wages I earned)? Just trying to plan because my mortgage is due on the following monday so Im wondering if there will be delay in funds.
Thank you again soo much for any advice |

Yeah, you report as usual, or there's a delay, anyway. Shouldn't be any processing issues, at least. Glad to help. |

hey - thanks again for the advice and guidance. So I am going to call to certify today and just want to make sure.. I report the money I earned in those two days of work correct? (see above) and then for the days avaliable I notify them there were 2 days I was unavaliable for work right?
I want to just file as I normaly would by reporting no earnings but I dont want to be dishonest about it and screw up my benifits. The amount i made is lower than my weekly benifit allowance so I thought I might be able to go this route.. have you had any experience with this sittuation? Advice?
Sorry for needing clarification.. first time on benifits and Im totaly lost |

You do have to report the earnings, and the two days unavailable. More trouble than it will ever be worth, otherwise.
This is pretty much standard; the payout from the benefit depends on the UC policy and rates. Whatever you got paid, they have a standard deduction from benefits. In NY they're complaining about getting more in benefits than if they work part time, because the wages are less, and they cut into the payments more.
Best shot is roll with the punches, if you wind up a bit short. Nothing UC can do about it either, they're stuck with whatever rates the government allows. |
