hi, i am 16 and need help choosing a career path. I have applied for an I.T practitioners course, but after the presentation and interview, i wasnt sure whether it was still what i wanted to do. I got into computers basically because i had nothing else to do in my spare time a couple of years back. I started to get really into them, making websites etc. Because of this i have got very good with them, but now i am starting to loose interest in computers and im not sure whether i still want to have this as a career path.

When i was very young i used to like taking things apart and do stupid stuff like putting calulators in water and see if they still work, it could be because of this, that my dad wants me to do something practical like engineering or mechanics, like he did aswell as my grandad, which has also made me think that it might be in me to do something practical like this. I have had no experience in this sort of career so i dont know whether it would suit me and whether i would enjoy it or not. I do like to still take things apart and make things etc but i also still like computers, just not as much as i used to.
One thing they said at the it practioners interview was that 'i had to like doing things with computers other than just playing games' which i seem to do mostly now. I was thinking that if i do the it practitioners course, it might get me back into computers and i might start enjoying working with them.

I know ive said allot, but can someone give me tips as to what they would do if they were in the situation that im in?
I have decided to apply for 2 courses aswell in the hope that i will learn more about that course in the presentaion and interview. These are Electronic engineering and Engineering. I did think about doing a levels, which would allow me to have some time to think about my future, but i decided that i didnt like the thought of more exams and boring lessons.

Thanks any help apprecieted

Taking your required courses and getting them out of the way first might help you make up your mind about what career you would like to pursue.
Since you mentioned some of the things you did as a kid, that makes me think that you might like engineering. And since you like computers also, see if there's some way for you to try taking a CAD class, maybe at a college near you, if it is economically feasible. Or some way for you to get access to the program so you can experiment with it. CAD is used a lot by engineers.

Don't worry too much now...you have time to figure it out.

First - you are 16.

Nobody knows what they want at 16. Are you going to try to go to college or trade school? If I were you, the best thing would be to try to take general courses to begin with. Just to show you many different topics and possibilities.

Last - your 16, what are you even doing on this forum? Career paths are for people 25 and older. Be young and get exposed to as many different things as possible. =)
