| Am about to retire after 23 years serving in the military. I have been the commanding officer of military bands for the past 16 years. I have a masters degree in music, but am really not interested in teaching public school. In the course of my career, I have had significant experiences with various aspect of the Human Resources business - recruiting, employee relations, evaluations, budget management, etc. I'd like some advice on what type of education or training to pursue to best set me up for a management career or perhaps something in the HR business. For example, should I pursue a business degree? Of would I be better off going on with my music and go for a DMA or a PhD in Education? |

Talk to human resource professionals.
Call up some large companies and ask to talk to the Human Resource Manger. Explain to them were you are coming from and what you want to do. See if they can let you come in and watch them work for a day. Learn about all of the different human resource jobs.
Find out from the professionals what kind of education you need to get hired. They are the experts on what they want.
Check out The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and find a local chapter. |
