Hi
Just thought I'd mention something about applying for jobs online.
More and more employers are advertising jobs online and calling for initial applications to be made via email. If you're responding to one of these, please do follow the following tips:
1. Read the advert carefully and give the client what he's asking for. If the ad says that you must understand Java (for example), make sure you mention this in your CV.
2. Your email will be your cover letter to which you'll attach your CV. Make sure the subject line is something relevant so that whoever you've adressed it to will lknow it's an application. Lots of online applications get junked simply because the subject line isn't clear.
3. Remember to attach your CV. It's easy to hit the "send" button when emailing without actually attaching what you've said is attached. Sending the CV later with an apology could very well lead to your losing your chance of an interview.
4. Make sure you address your email to the correct person.
5. Make sure your CV is sent in the format requested. If nothing specific is mentioned, use PDF as this can be universally read. If you don't have a PDF convertor, use a free one at http://convert.neevia.com/.
I hope this information has been helpful to some of you. I know the future will call for more and more online applications so feel it's necessary that job seekers know how to deal with this particular scenario.
Regards

Thank you so much, Camille, for these good words of advice regarding how to apply for work online. Many of the websites that I have found have a link for employment, or careers, and all one has to do is click that and follow their instructions. For instance, see if any of their openings are what the person would be qualified for and/or if anything there interests them. If you aren't qualified for something you'd like to learn, then you can get yourself qualified.
Then follow their instructions in their Job Applications online and type the information and check the correct answers. Be clear to follow their instructions as to whether or not to take a test, or whether they will get back to you upon their review of your job application, or whether they would like you to submit a Resume. I don't ever use the word CV, I use Resume. Most all of the places that I have found prefer a person to submit via email their Resume in a copy and paste format along with a cover letter. Some may request a Resume on the website attached for their use. Some have said NO attachments in the email as those won't even be read nor opened. |
