General comment: This is too much material. You've got about two pages here. You'll need to streamline the CV down, to allow you to add material targeting jobs.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Civil Engineer, Nov 2008 to Present.
Job title? Best to show any management role, etc.
Obayashi Corporation, Dubai, UAE.
Project: Dubai Metro
Contract Type: Consortium Design and Construct.
Project Scope: Dubai Metro, 53 km – 28 Elevated stations, 4 Underground Stations.
Project Value: Dhs 14 billion.
Responsibilities
Coordination of construction activities. Too vague. Define this role.
Preparing Bill of Quantities for construction.
Liaising with authorities for NOC approvals.
Coordination of utility connection for the whole station.
Preparation of Method of Statements.
The three lines above relate to statutory approvals, and other regulatory related issues. How would you define your role, in a line or two?
Active involvement in structural and finishing works inside the station.
Not specific. Define this role.
Review of drawing prior to issue for construction.
"Review" meaning approval by you prior to submission? If so, relates to job title.
In charge of Utility Connections for the whole Station.
In charge for waterproofing activates inside and above the station.
Issuing daily work permits.
Role and job title, again.
Project forecasting and reporting to Construction Manager.
Bill Checking and its Certification.
Managing manpower, time and cost at site level
Weekly meetings with subcontractors and preparation of minutes of meeting.
Management role?
Provide Tool Box Talks to ensure safe completion of any task prior to start.

This is actually a very good CV, in terms of content, work history and credentials, as well as your roles and qualifications. I've seen a few of these CVs before, so I've got a pretty good idea what your job titles and roles were, but the quantity of material has to be cut down and the content made a lot clearer.
Readers need to see direct correlations to the jobs advertised. This is very general, and the amount of material could confuse readers without clear definitions of your roles.
Suggested layout: (This the conventional CV layout, sometimes easier for readers.)
Objectives: (Leave as is, self explanatory.)
Key Skills and Abilities: You could include your managerial roles and specific categories like regulatory, OHS, etc. (You can use and modify these to target job criteria when applying)
Work history:
Job title: This is a real selling point, and anything called "manager" adds credibility, particularly when going for management jobs.
Responsibilities: Clearly defined roles, like "managing regulatory approvals". Use job criteria as basis for explaining your roles. If you lodge an online application, the job criteria are usually keywords.
Achievements: The budget and dollar value approach is very apt in projects. These are credentials for working with budgets. You can include additional information where relevant to job applications.
Education: Spell it out. Remember that your reader may or may not be familiar with the qualifications.
References: You really must refer to these somewhere, even if you just say "References available upon request".
Important: Projects are picky employers, and all job applications are very competitive. You'll be up against professionals at your own level. You will need to draft your CV so it can be tailored to each application. Use the draft as raw material, but don't just send a standardized CV, because what fits one job usually won't be a good fit for another.
Try a redraft along these lines, see how it works. |

thanks for the tip pauloz. im working on the redraft....but finding it tough to get definitive words for the job descriptions i have included.... i also agree on the length of the cv and will cut it down.....
another point is that i have yet to get a credential of "manager'" so is it adviced if i include job descriptions that involves management of work.....as you hav highlighted a point in my job description to be a management role.....
Project forecasting and reporting to Construction Manager.
Bill Checking and its Certification.
Managing manpower, time and cost at site level
Weekly meetings with subcontractors and preparation of minutes of meeting.
Management role?
what would be the apt substitute for these lines to more amplify my management skills in these areas
thanks again. |
