This is a topic just started which we could set aside for those that were just recently fired/let go from their position for various reasons. This can happen to anyone. They can fire you for any reason at all. They can fire you if they do not like the way you dress or the way you walk. They can fire you just because they are in a bad mood. They can fire you because they bought a new cadillac and their wife had a baby and they are in a bad mood. This may sound ridiculous, but some of these things can happen.

What can you do about it?

Where do you turn for support?

How do you prepare yourself for future work?

How do you prevent this from happening again?

How do you get over the sadness and guilt and the unwanted feeling that this leaves you with, sometimes many years later?

What good can come out of being fired/let-go???

And what's the first question the next job will ask you at your interview?
Why were you fired!!! OUCH!!!

Now go listen to each other and go post so you can get it out of your system. We won't even charge you a cent for having other members "counsel" you. .... There is no need to go to a doctor or to a counselor for someone to listen to you.

We are here to help you out.

Why? Because we know what it is like to get fired.

Hi my name is X and I got fired.

Welcome to the club

Remember it is not the end of the world!!!

There are two major getting fired groups.

THOSE WHO KNOW WHY THEY GOT FIRED AND THEY DESERVED IT.

THOSE WHO WERE FIRED UNJUSTLY.

I was fired unjustly.. my first thoughts were revenge, but know I think this pause in my life, gave me time to think and reflect on what I really wanna do. I was thinking of buying this book : , read it and see what happens afterwards!

ps - I like this map thingy next to my user name, I am not from china. But I put the map there in solidarity of the chinese farmers being bullied out of their land. We in the west do not know how luck we are !!!!

Please explain about this China farmers losing their land?? Sad I don't watch the news much and only see what Yahoo News tells me. Since I do know some farmers (my boyfriend and some friends of his), well farming is quite hard enough and it costs a fortune. Farming seems to have turned more into a hobby even here in the USA and it is not a money-making venture, unless one has a major amount of land with huge equipment. Of course it is good to grow your own food in your own garden, and at least we can eat as we sure as heck do not have much money working on the internet.

Surprised Back to the person just fired, think of it as a blessing as they didn't deserve you. Whatever it was, I have found that although at a time it is a horrible thing and very emotional thing to have a job loss for any reason. And each time I of course felt it was unfair as it was due to things out of my control, etc., but each time I went BACK to college/school and learned new skills. Such as computer, and there are always more software and more things to learn on the computer. Since I lost one of my jobs due to computers, I revenged computers and now I use the internet computers 24 hrs a day and one day I'll walk into my past employer and they can just see what kind of an employee they turned away due to not knowing how to use the computer.

The other recent position I lost due to having pneumonia. Well what kind of a doctors clinic would fire someone because they had pneumonia and were not in for work often enough. Idea Well I used this to learn all about medical issues, and now I think I could pass just about any kind of a nursing test (only kidding). Perhaps that could help me find a job in some medical field.

In other words, put your best foot forward. Keep trying, learn new things, learn from your experiences as to what happened. Then keep going and find a new place that pay may be even better, as next time around you'll be more skilled with new training. Just think, if you didn't get fired you may not have had the time to go to college again or to learn new skills, or you may not have motivated yourself enough to excel in these things.

I was lucky to have saved some money and can live for some time on my savings. I do think about people who get fired and have whole families to support

Like anything else, luck's relative. That goes for those who've been fired from their jobs and the Chinese farmers.

I honestly believe that nothing's so bad that it isn't good for something, it's just a matter of keeping your chin up and looking for the possibilities that your new situation offers. Life's a challenge; whether it's a fun challenge or one that drags you down is entirely dependent on the way you handle it.

Now you're probably thinking "it's alright for her, she's probably safe in her cushy job" or something, but believe me, nothing could be further from the truth. I've had more than my fair share of adversity thrown my way but I'm still here and I'm still determined to make the best out of whatever situation I happen to find myself in.

Just keep believing in yourself and your abilities - people may knock you down but never ever let them keep you down.

Confused Crying or Very sad

Hello,

My name is Laura. I am going through a terrible time due to the fact that I was recently fired. I have an extremely stable work history in the Insurance industry. I worked 10 years for a very large Insurance Company in downtown, Hartford. Subsequent to that I worked another 5 years for another large downtown, Hartford, CT Insurance company.

Last summer I had an interim review (right around my 5 yr point) that was a complete surprise. My boss has pretty much always met with her staff members on a weekly basis for a scheduled 1x1 session. This helped us to determine what we were expected to do for the week and how we were performing. Thus, there should be no surprises.

I was a lead Business Analyst in a Project Management Office. I was solely responsible for managing a web-based application and any of the product roll-outs or productions support releases associated with my system. i managed the testers, wrote test strategies, test plans, business specs, test scripts, etc. I managed the test envirionments relative to the testing of my system.

Too, I worked on several other systems/projects simultaneously and performed a variety of Project Management tasks throughout the Project
Lifecycle process.

At my interim review, I got ******. Again, there should have been no surprises as all of my implementations were satisfactory and noone expressed any happiness in all of the weeks preceding my review. I knew the writing was on the wall that I had to leave. My boss had every opportunity at my weekly 1x1's with her to express any dissatisfaction or concern about my performance if there was any.

I started to job search and interview very quickly. In about 7 weeks I had a consulting assigment for a Consulting division of a large Insurance company.
It was a good job with a good company and I was glad to have it. I was hoping at some point to get in full time.

Well, I felt as though after my first day that there was allusion to the fact that my stay there was temporary---extremely temporary. I know I was a temp Consultant, but I felt by day 2 that they had already planned my departure.

I had a good repoire w/ the Programmer and the client/business folks that I was to provide this new system to. The Project Manager, however, was unhappy that I felt the need to make sure that the IT and the Business side were all on the same page. Where I came from, working for a Project Management Office that was my job and I was expected to do that.

At this temp assignment on this smaller project, it was perceived that I was stepping on the feet of the Project Manager.

The bottom line is, I have a lot of experience. I have many, many Recruiters contacting me. I think I have been black-balled from some sort of Universal Recruiting system as Recruiters call me (many) wanting to place me, but then when they attempt to do so are not able tod. And I have been told that it has nothing to do with my experience or credentials.

My situation is extremely upsetting as my track record is very good--10 years at one large reputable company and 5 years at another. And the Consulting assignment is burying me----it was only 6 weeks. Too, the action I took on the assignment was in no way to overstep the boundaries of the Project Manager. It was what I have been expected to do in the past in the Project Management Office that I worked for as a Business Analyst. And had I not done it at my old job, I may have been reprimanded or fired.

So----I am finding it hard to find employment. Too, all of the Recruiters phoning me are directing me back, (trying to find me jobs) back at either the job I left in August, (5 years) or the company I had my temporary assignment.

I just want to start somewhere new. This has taken such a toll on me and my entire family.

Any advice??

Thanks!

Laura Rosenberg

You know it really does stink when you get shafted like this. I was fired a while back (in July) after having been working as a transcriptionist in a law firm for about 6 months. I found out later that he let a lot of us go that were all hired at the same time, including 1 attorney. It seems that he brought us in to help us get caught up on his work, of course he didn't tell us this, and then he just let us go. I was so mad because it was a job that I enjoyed and yet so glad because the stress and tension in that office were so thick it was unbelievable.

You know I honestly don't understand how companies can get away shafting people like they do. I mean I know that they're big corporations and all but don't they have a conscience. Obviously they don't or they'd show that they cared about their employees. You know I'm in my 30's and in all my working life I have yet to find a boss that actually cares about their employees, even when they come across like they do when they're interviewing you. I really think that it's quite sad because without the employees there'd be no income. It's too bad that they think that they can easily replace any employee any time they want to.
