I have a friend who had a similar experience in the IT industry. This may or may not apply to your case, but I think it's worth mentioning.
His problem wasn't the gap in the CV, it was his knowledge base. Over his extended absence, the industry had moved on, and adopted the new class of systems. (This was pre-Web 2.0)
He'd been a senior staff member, and he was badly out of synch in regard to the new systems. He couldn't find a position, for that reason.
At your level, this may not be as much of a problem, but you would know how competitive positions are at that level.
I would suggest, on principle, however, that you check out any positions beforehand, to avoid waste of time and disappointment.
Otherwise, your gap, and the reasons for it, should be pretty acceptable in any modern workplace. As a matter of fact, if those reasons aren't accepted, I think you would find that those employers may not be too helpful with family situations, and better avoided, with a young family. |
