last night my boss handed me a written warning.

This was a bolt from the blue.

I have worked at this job for 7 months now and have had my first 3 month probation extended, then at the end of the second 3 months I was put on staff without the payrise agreed to in my contract because he still wasnt happy with my performance. This was 3 weeks ago.

I feel I am being unfairly treated. The day earlier I requested he speak to a co-worker who has taken to verbally abusing me in the office. The previous incumbent had held the position for 7 years and was something of the office nazi, and I am nothing like this, preferring to concentrate on my own work.

I didnt react very well and we had a brief and at times heated exchange of views which lasted about 2 hours and resulted in him telling me he believes he needs to get more involved with what is happening outside his office, in particular with my workload and lack of support.

I spoke to friends about it last night and they both believe he will never be satisfied with my performance and I am best to move on.

What does every one else think?

Sounds like he won't ever be satisfied with your peformance and either you will have to accept that or find a job where you feel more welcome and appreciated. It sounds like you are not working in the best of environments.

It is best to evaluate the job in general. Are there other pluses about this job that are more than the negatives? If not, then may be you can start looking. Once you find another job, you can resign, as it is usually easier to find another job while you are working.

There no reason to put up with verbal abuse. I would tell that person, "Stop taking your problems out on me." Make your comments sharp and abrupt. If the abuse does not stop right away, leave and go take a break.

I think your friends are probably right you are best to move on. I would start looking for other options.
