I recently started working in a position and signed a contract that stated I would pay back two weeks pay before taxes for "training" if I left within a year.
Well I have received an offer for a much better position. I am unhappy in my position and would like to leave immediately to begin at the new job.
Does the two week common courtesy rule apply here? If I work for two more weeks I will lose money in two ways. First the contract fee and second by the lower salary.
In addition, I am salary and feel my employer is taking advantage of this by requiring many hours above 40 hours. Things like Friday afternoon notifications to come in on the weekends; and not paying all travel expenses. The new job will have flexible hours only requiring 40 hours and any time above that will be voluntary.
I would like to write in my resignation letter something along the lines of "in leu on two weeks notice I will pay my contract breaking fee".
Any opinions??? |

I like the last line and under the circumstances, I think leaving immediately makes the most sense. Ordinarily, that would not be my advice, but I understand your situation.
