Hi Gordon! Have you thought about using that opportunity to go beyond a traditional thank you letter? Don't get me wrong, a thank-you letter or note, especially handwritten, is a very nice gesture.
I'm thinking more inline of a letter that takes it up a notch. Avoid starting it out with traditional intros. Think of something eye-catching, such as "Global Marketing had a great article in this morning's newsletter about your company's upcoming expansion efforts." It would be great if you could insert a contact name within that first sentence or two as well. It's a much better way of catching the reader's attention then using a bland intro statement.
Then, how about proceeding by including boiled down statements from your initial cover letter that briefly highlights how your skill set matches the company's current needs? How about mentioning recent and positive media (print, radio, online, television) exposure on what the company is doing? Hiring agents like to see candidates that follow employer happenings.
Lastly, go into how kind it is for the company to have taken the time to send a response ... especially since so few do so. <wink>
Good luck to you, Gordon! |
