Thread: This is BS!

    This is BS!

So I talked to the Pennsylvania unemployment reps about starting a biz while being unemployed. They tell me, NO... don't succeed, keep looking for temp/part time jobs or else you'll get canned by us.

See the thing is, I'm not looking to buy a franchise or start up a trade style business (electrician, construction, etc). I'm looking to start a part time, online business which is considered a high risk type of business.

My point is, it's more of a hobby that I want to get going and with the amount of knowledge I have in different aspects of online business... I wouldn't need tons of capital or would it require me to "stop looking for work".

Truth is, I hate being unemployed. It's demoralizing, it's like waiting for an end to a circle jerk. End being, nothing.

I know a lot of people think lowly of unemployed like we are lazy losers sucking off the government. I'm 33 and this is the first time I've been unemployed, working since I was 14 at the pizza shop. Who wants to see the end of their hard work, knowing it was all taken for granted? Not me.

So here I am, looking for work in northeastern Ohio all the way to northwestern Pennsylvania (50 mile radius). Temp agencies and all, nothing! No one calls me back.. I even had some people get irritated with me for calling them once a week to find out what's going on. Saying "WE WILL CALL YOU IF THERE IS ANYTHING".

So all I want to do is try my hand at an online business, which can go either way. Like I said it's not something that would stop me from looking for work, it can be done anytime of the day. It's not something that is guaranteed, but it is something I'm willing to put a lot of effort into. The costs are low, I don't need a Gov. loan. All I'd love to do is be able to pay my bills, have food on the table and work towards my dream.

NO! That is too productive! Look for work! If you do anything else, you're cut! We don't care if you can be successful and work away from unemployment, if you even think of trying to do something for yourself, get lost! If you even try, we will not only penalize you but make you pay back everything!

This is America? Don't we have enough problems with issues that aren't about the average citizen trying to do something with their life? Is this really counterfeiting the system if I claim all my earnings? Just like if my job would call me back for a few days? I could just deduct whatever I earn, I'd be happy with that.

The problem is, yes I could skip the system if I wanted to. I could be a freelancer and have people pay me directly. I could be the same tax exempt drug dealer style money maker and not pay taxes or show what I make. I think they want that!

So here I am, on unemployment. I'm trying to find a way out. I'm not finding something that can get me out of this rut, but I'm not allowed to go beyond the heavily restricted guidelines? I have to either look for work full time or suffer. Who cares if there's no jobs, be lazy... waste all your gas running around, or live on the streets.

Here I am, going on tier 2 of my unemployment. Having worked in computer sales (no not Best Buy), telemarketing, telesales, wholesale sales, affiliate manager, property manager, class B cnc operator, blueprinting (mechanical engineering)... I'm just a lazy a** that should not try to do something that won't even affect my unemployment claims. JUST KEEP LOOKING FOR WORK FULL TIME!

Seriously how many hours in a day can you look for work? Offices close right?

Do you think I am wrong here in what I want to do? Be honest.

Seriously, I think you should go for it. I've seen first hand (or rather second hand helping build an online business for someone else) that there is real money in it. Your job centre sounds the same as ours, you either do it their way or not at all. I'm trying to make a go of it myself (though not as successfully as I'd like) and I can say this - you have to speculate to accumulate, and you really have to put the time in (I don't). You can get started on a shoestring, but don't expect instant results, and don't buy into the online marketing crap, go with what you know. Hope this helps.

I think so too. Never mind what other people have to say. Don't get discouraged. I'm positive you will earn money from it.
