My last job was through classified but the previous one was via an agency. I've had interviews via the internet and I'm now self employed but get most of my work via a kind of online networking and cold calling. All the methods work and they're all part of every jobseeker's armoury.

Not quite sure what the point of the poll is other than to see how we all got our jobs. It would mean slightly more if we knew where you were - urban, rural, big city etc

Its so long ago that I can only just about remember but the truth is that I was told about it by a friend who worked in the same company. He didnt help me get the job but I would not of known about it if he hadnt been there and as I have worked for the company for 15 years who knows what life would of been like if I had worked somewhere else.

If its any help, my daughter has just got a job and she found it by lookking in the local newspaper.

    Finding Jobs

Most of the jobs that I had in the past were found by simply looking in the local newspaper in the Classified Section. Some of the recent casual work was found on job boards and forums, which was on the internet. I have also done some self-employment type of work which is also on the internet.

I chose other. I was in the right place at the right time. Somebody liked a dish I'd prepared in a restaurant I was working in and hired me on the strength of it. He was opening a restaurant and was checking out the competition. I'd just had a huge row with my boss so I did a major flounce on him but just walked into a new job instead of onto the street!! Gotta take those chances

That was a real stroke of luck, Sandra. I'm sure there aren't many who have such an interesting and unusual story

How did I find my job? I'd been working in management for a competing company for a few years but wasn't happy with their policies so decided to look elsewhere. I cold called a few companies that I thought might be interested and as it happened, the company I work for now needed a HR manager. I went along, had a chat with them and a look around, I liked them and they liked me and here I am

I have to say that most of those who I've employed here have come to interviews through agencies. We don't advertise in newspapers but do pay to have the agency we use put our listing in their ad in a free magazine that's given out at rail stations here in London. We very rarely get cold callers but now and then a CV arrives with an 'on spec' application.

Hope this has been of help to you in your research

I'm still at college so only have a P/T job. Does that count?

I'll tell you how I got it. I was in town and I saw a sign in a shop window that said "part time help wanted evening and weekends" so I went in. I spoke to the owner and we agreed that I'd try two evenings a week and saturdays. It worked out and I've been there for 8 months now. It isn't a lot but it gives me some money to go to gigs and buy clothes with. I'm now looking for a job in Turkey for the summer instead.

Working mopstly as a free lancer is clar that allmy jobs/customers are found over the internet - on free lancing sites.

However in my country (Romania) most of the classical jobs are found searching the classifields.
