    why can't i get a job?

i am a hardworking student at my school in birmingham but the problem is i believe that i need the experience of having a job.And i have searched all across the internet but i cannot seem to find anything , and its really making we feel as if i will never find one. yes even though there is a credit crunch their should be jobs avalible for the younger generation i mean we are sometimes stereotyped by adults about how teenagers are always on the street i would like to say give us a chance and we will prove you wrong.

    yours sincerely

    Hello, channel!

It is quite difficult for OVER 18's to get a job, let alone under 18's. Due to the recession, alot of employers are cutting back on their workers. This includes small jobs, such as Paper Rounds and Shelf-Stacking.

I agree with your views here. There should be more jobs available for the younger teens. Sadly, due to the recession, this is proving more and more difficult. I'd keep looking round and hopefully a position will open up somewhere.

I agree; you must never get tired of finding for the right job. Most companies could be trying to cut costs due to (global) recession but for sure there's still a job waiting that's fit for you. It's just a matter of good timing and being able to effectively perform the job well. And of course, 'must know the basics in applying for a new job. It can be difficult to find a job when you are a teenager however you should not lose hope and you should keep on trying. You should consistently look for job openings online. By doing this, you may get details about job openings and you can grab the oppurtunity.

I feel you. Don't get frustrated. You will soon be able to get a job. Don't lose hope. I've experienced that as well but that never deterred me from looking for a job.

    call me crazy

Sorry to hear about your situation. You mentioned that you have looked all over the internet. I feel like for a young person, the internet isn't that great a place. Jobs for young people that don't require specific skills (i am assuming) don't need to post jobs.

Have you tried the following? And here is why I ask. I think it is VERY EASY for a young person to stick out in a positive manner when they show up in person to a place if they stick to the following because SO FEW YOUNG PEOPLE DO:

Dress the way older people want to see you. This means conservative clothing. Doesn't have to be expensive. Even if you go to a used clothing store to save a few bucks. A pair of Khaki's and a white button down shirt with a pair of black or brown shoes, and you can't go wrong.

A decent hair cut (you need to represent your employer to their customers)

Take out any jewelry you may have

    Cover up your tattoos

Come in with a resume, introduce yourself, and ask the manager for an application. Take it home, fill it out COMPLETELY and neatly, and enclose a cover letter. (Google: cover letter and resume for students) You may not need the resume in person, but it won't hurt to have it handy.

I would say that 95% of young people that apply do not do the above mentioned things. They may do 1 or 2 of them, but they don't deliver the full package.

After you do this with a couple of places, follow up in person to the manger and check in within a couple of weeks. Let them know you are interested. Young people quit all the time. Keep showing up well groomed. When they get the feeling that you are serious (which in their mind most people are not) they will talk.

Hope this gives you some ideas, good luck
