Would you move for a job?

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering how many people would move to a different place in order to get a job. This is what I've had to do.

What a pity nobody is participating in this poll. It could be interesting to see how many would actually move for the sake of a job.

Not having any particular ties here in Manchester, I wouldn't think twice about moving if it meant a better, more interesting job. Don't get me wrong, I'd miss my friends, but I spend more time at work than I do with them so job satisfaction is a priority for me.

I'd definately move if it meant I could get more money.

What's to keep anybody in one place when there's a whole world out there to be discovered? Ok, if you've got kids at school then maybe it's not so easy to just up sticks and move but other than that, why stay?

I would, and indeed have moved for a job, but would only do so if I'd exhausted every avenue in my home town first.

The first time I moved for a job was when I was in my early 20s. I'd finished Uni and taken a job in a local bank before being offered the kind of job I really wanted in another town about 75 miles from my home town. I took the job because I knew it would be a good career move and 75 miles isn't the other side of the world, after all.

The second move came about 4 years later. Again, I was offered a job that would mean a large increase in my salary and a better position career wise but this time it meant moving down to London, where I am now. THAT'S a move I don't regret as I would never have met my husband if I'd stayed put. Of course, I may have met somebody else, but can't imagine being as happy with anybody else.

Now? I wouldn't like to have to move and as I'm happy with the work I do, I don't see why I would need to. Even if I lost my job for some reason, I can't imagine not being able to find something else suitable in London. It's a big place after all.

I do understand that those living in small towns may often feel pressured into moving in order to get a job and it's unfortunate that things have developed in this way. But once the move is made, most people soon settle in and never really look back.
