Don't know what to pursue for new career

I am in the Air Force and am doing my best to get out and start a new career I will enjoy. The problem is that I can not figure out what I would like to do that will pay the bills and keep me from going crazy. My service to the Air Force has been great with no mis-conducts. What do I do?

What do you do in the airforce, does it have an equivalent in the real world ?
Does the army offer any help, to find a job in the civilian world ?

The first thing you should ask yourself is what do you like doing .

My job is heavy equipment. I enjoy it to a certain extent. It's the repeatativeness that turns me off. I would like to do something that challenges me, yet is different everyday. What do you recomend?

Have you thought about working in the shipping industry ?
Have you given thought about getting the wings ?

The limitations to what you want to do are really only in your head. It all depends how much you are willing to sacrifice to change your career, are you ready to take further training to get more skills. Do you have other responsibilities (wife, kids) which have to be taken into the consideration when deciding about your career shift. Would you consider, going for something completely different. (Teaching English in Asia?)

I hope you understand what I am trying to tell you, that is first work out what are ready to do / risk in order to get to the destination. Then choose the destinations that you think require the risks - resources you are ready to give up.


Others will tell you find what you love to do and turn into a job. That's all fine. But we do live in the real world !

I would imagine there would be lots of possibilities in mining, or heavy transport. A military background would be highly regarded by someone considering putting you in charge of a couple of million dollars worth of earth mover - you need discipline and attention to detail for a job like that.

Maybe driving big rigs in Europe? Or road trains in Australia?
