    Need job ideas

I'm 16 and I'm going to be graduating from high school in June and was looking for job ideas for after high school. I was gonna go to college right after, but I just got a new truck and want to pay most of that off before I go to college. Does anybody have any job ideas for a 16 year old high school graduate?

    Hi Garner,

That's a great idea to try to pay off any debt as quickly as possible. As a 16 year old high school graduate, you'll be choosing between a lot of entry level positions. You could work at a clothing store, electronics store, restaurant, hotel, golf course, bookstore, movie theater... If you're a good student, you can try to get a job with a tutoring company. If you have good people skills and are organized, you could get a job working in an office as an office assistant.

What are your hobbies/interests and skills? What types of jobs interest you? Knowing that info will help me come up with a better list of jobs that might suit you.

You're welcome. Sorry about the spammers. Sometimes they sneak in here faster than I can ban them.

If you're good at math and like finances, you might do well in a cashier position. Cashiers are needed at a wide variety of businesses, including grocery stores, amusement parks, museums, clothing stores, electronics stores, restaurants, ice cream parlors.... I could go on, but I bet you get the point. It's good you have strong math skills on your side; too many people don't, so employers will love it if you're able to do basic math, quickly, with minimal errors.

Your two biggest options are going to be food service and retail. The perks of food service usually include free or discounted food; for retail, it's employee discounts on what your store sells. At movie theaters, you often get to see movies for free. Unfortunately a lot of these places don't actually advertise their jobs online; sometimes they just have a sign in their window. It would be good to both check Groovejob and Craigslist for entry level positions and to ask in person in a place like a mall, where you can check a lot of places at once. Also, if there is an amusement park near you, their website would be a good place to check as well.

Given your interests in law enforcement and the military, you might also be interested in checking USAJobs.gov for government jobs. Instead of searching by department, I suggest narrowing it down by required experience and location.

Because you're 16, it might be hard to find a position exactly in a field related to finances, cars, law enforcement, etc, but whatever job you do get, you'll be gaining valuable work experience.

Good luck with finishing up school and finding a job!

    Hey again,

I thought of something else you should check out. Truth be told, I'd kind of forgotten you're not in the "I need a job right this second" mode like many who come here. So programs through the US Government might be really great to look into.

The U.S. government has several programs for students, including the Student Educational Employment Programs (STEP/SCEP), Student Career Experience Program (SCEP) and Federal Career Intern Program, among others. You may be able to qualify for some of these positions, such as the Student Clerical Position at the Federal Trade Commission.

    Check out these two links:
    http://www.usajobs.gov/studentjobs/
    http://www.usajobs.gov/StudentJobs/A...orStudents.asp

You can also contact individual departments directly for possible internships that aren't listed online.

Today's world is more competitive world and developing technologies such as internet. so, you can earn money through the internet and various data entry jobs and you can go in call centres also, if you are good in communication.
