    Please help...

Hello, i Am 20 and currently work for a branch of a big uk carpet chain,
I am currently a sales assistant and other than myself we have a manager and about 3 months ago another sales assistant began working for us. I feel i am being underpaid for doing my job.
I do rotas, book in stock, order stock i hold my own set of keys to open and close the store and i am left in charge of the store when the manager is on days off, i am also left incharge of the other sales assistant, i deal with money and in my opinion have the responsibilities of an assistant manager or atleast a supervisor. My nornal working hours are 9-6 but 1 night every week i have to work 11 - 8 with 6 - 8 being on my own, the other sales assistant doesnt have to do any of this, so why should i? I have worked for this company for 6 months and still havent been given my contract in writting, and when i was taken on these 8 pm finishes didnt exist... What should i do? Am i being underpaid? Please reply... Thanks in advance

Also, i have been asking for my contract for 2 months and at first i got told (we dont do contracts) and then when i persisted i keep getting told 'it will be sorted next week'... But next week never comes, also, when i ask why the other sales assistant doesnt have these responsibilities they say 'well she can't be left on her own in charge of the store' surely that isnt fair

Without specific knowledge of your industry and job market, it's impossible to tell whether you're being underpaid.

However, it's easy to tell that this big UK carpet chain is doing you wrong by not providing you an employment contract, even after two months. That is extremely shady and/or irresponsible. A contract is necessary for many, many reasons - legal, benefits, etc.

If the store continues to fail to deliver you a contract, and to continue to make you work unfair hours, seek employment elsewhere.

    Good luck!

    Hi Jandro

It's really sad. Though you are working so hard. still not getting any kind of rewards. Even they are not giving you the appointment letter. I would suggest that stop doing extra efforts and let them realize your value. They should not avoid you in any case. It seems that this company is not going to help you in any ways. If you are getting any other job, just switch. May be when you'll tell that you are leaving they will consider your problems seriously. You are doing a good work so you shouldn't worry at all.
    Good Luck!!!!

Just some things to consider/ think about:
-Does the other sales assistant make money less than you? Or is she on the same pay scale?
-Is there room for growth/ promotion? If so, it would appear you would have a better chance at advancement than the other sales assistant.
-Have you explored other opportunities elsewhere.

much better if you look for another job elsewhere,it is too fishy theyre not giving you any contract after working for 2 months, looks like that's not your company..
