Yes, there is a lot of shady stuff in the work-at-home industry.
Fortunately, there's a site called WAHM (Work At Home Moms), and they have a forum dedicated to work-at-home jobs:

Good luck!
Working from hom has it's pluses & negatives. You may find this helpful http://www.kmd-solutions.com/workfromhome.htm
There are genuine online working from home opportunities, but some are not.
In general, beware of working from home employers who ask for your money in advance. Legitimate working from home employers pay you money and do not ask you for money.

Do you mean work-at-home jobs where you are your own boss or jobs that are with companies that allow tele-work? A lot of companies now are starting to find a lot of benefits by having their employees tele-work...so they are even letting new employees do it.

How about freelance work? Have you ever tried it?
Since I have some work from home experience, I would like to share it with you guys...You can find some decent work from home oppurtunites on sites like odesk, freelance and many more.....Just one thing, the pay might not be that great as you expect...but still do some research before joining anything...Good luck.
I agree, freelance, odesk, iwriter fiverr and mturk are good places to make some extra income, its not a dream job but if your in a pinch you can get some extra cash.

At times, you may feel your life sucks.
But there are millions who wish to live your life.
I think that freelance work is the best one. Work as a freelance writer you can manage your own time. You can also write for several services and receive good sum of money. It’s no secret that work from home can give you many other advantages. I know that essaywriters. net proposes chance to earn extra money: writer should add to login combination_777 (underscore triple seven) and then applicant's first earnings will be doubled. You can find many other similar offers in Internet.
That's such a good question and I hear it all the time.
Internet marketers spend a lot of time making sure their websites come up in Google every time a person searches for things like "work from home" and unfortunately there is a large portion of "too good to be true" money-making systems.
There are a lot of legitimate work from home opportunities - in fact, I'll be writing an article on some for my blog (jobgettingtips.com) in the next month or so... but you must remember that they are work, not jobs. That means that you are not always paid for your time. You're paid for piece work, etc.
Consider looking for:
- a work-from-home call center position
- paid surveys
- creating an eBay store
- paid surfing to view website advertisements
- affiliate marketing
- uploading photos to be stock as stock
- hosting home-based sales parties like Avon or Mary Kay
- etc.
These are just a few ideas off the top of my head. (Some are better than others) It is unlikely you will make thousands of dollars instantly as many websites would have you believe, but you can certainly start somewhere.

There are a lot of legit work from home opportunities but unfortunately you have to sift through a lot of garbage before actually unearthing the gold mines. The reason those offers you are getting in your email seem to good to be true is exactly what you suspect.. most of them are not true at all.

That's true.
The thing is, most work-from-home - especially the kind you can get online - can and will make you some money, but not nearly the exaggerated amounts claimed upfront.
