How to get up-to-date with marketing industry

I have a relative who has a degree in marketing but has been working out of industry for several years now. He is looking to get back into marketing but is feeling a bit behind the game since a lot has changed with online and social marketing.

Does anyone know of any resources (seminars, workshops, books, courses, etc.) which he could use to quickly ramp up?

There are a lot of sources on the internet. Just Google new marketing ideas. There are several blogs I read on regular basis that are very informative and keep my up to date on any new ideas.
