    Hi raji,

Well, the best way to start anything is to start. That is, you need to take a step forward, even if it is very small.

I can see a few first steps for you. One would be to put together a CV. Sure, it might not have much, but that's how you present yourself professionally to people you don't know. Your educational experience will be the foundation of your CV.

Second is to seek more education. In 13 years, your computer science training may have become outdated. So learn about what's current and bring yourself up to speed, whether that requires classes or self-teaching. This education can go on your CV.

Third is to seek more experience. If you can't find a paying job right away, see if you can find an internship or apprenticeship somewhere. Maybe a mentor somewhere can take you under his/her wing and show you the ropes. Perhaps you can do IT work for friends. Use your personal network to see if anyone in IT can give you an opportunity.

Finally, set a goal. Find a job that you'd like to have, and find out what requirements are necessary to get that job. Then do what it takes to meet those requirements, whether that means getting other education/experience.

    Good luck!

    Raji,
I agree with CleelB. You need to start. Just keep moving, even if the moves are small. I think that internships and apprenticeships are a great start and will give you real life experience and you can determine if this is something you want to do. The other thing that I would do is to start talking to as MANY people in person as you can looking for advice. Have coffee with people and pick their brain. You are not asking them for a job, you are bouncing your ideas off of them and they will respond. You will be surprised how often these informal meetings lead to other meetings which can lead you to a path. Call up a few friends that you know and see if they know people in the field that you are looking to break into. Ask for an introduction so you can have a 30 minute casual coffee with them. Learn more about the industry and what specifically you need to do to get there.

    Good Luck,
