Previous employers don't go around sabotaging former employees job searches. For one thing, it takes time away from running their business. Second, they would open themselves up to nasty lawsuits and other problems. It just isn't done by most people.

We all agree, thankfully, that "most" don't do it for the reasons you gave. But there are spiteful and vindictive employers just as there are those infamous "disgruntled ex-employees".

But you know (and I hate beating a dead horse), here's one more area of the "new" ways that leaves me confused. And I'm sure there's certainly been newsworthy examples, but I would think that if previous-employer "X" KNEW that ex-employee "Y" was a thief/axe-murderer/ate speed on the job/something/whatever--I would think that he would WANT to let future employers know!

I.E., couldn't the case be made that the previous employer is NOT trying "sabotage" the job seeker but is rather trying to protect the potential employer?

Oh well: File it all under "Oh the tangled webs we weave when first we practice to deceive."

Check your references. Make sure they all know you are giving their names as a reference. And let them know what you are aiming for. You need to know if there are any potential problems with a possible reference so you don't use them unless you need to.

I know for a fact that they will do it.I worked for a trucking company 10 years.True i quit but i did offer a two weeks notice and was told they did'nt need it.I did some research and found out that they are saying things like he can not work with others.he has bad misconduct. I would not hire him. Get this my brother inlaw runs the place.I have not spoke to him since i quit and never will again. The only thing i learned from that company is how to hate. The thing is thats were most of my driving experience comes from.I've learned not to use them when applying for jobs.

If you think that your previous employer sabotaging your job search, you have to prove that first and to discuss it with a lawyer. He can tell you the positive way for this.

It might be possible any of your previous employers is sabotaging your job search but it will serve as a lesson for us that if possible try hard to maintain a good relationship with your previous employers so that they'll recommend and give compliments than badmouth you and ruin your chance to succeed.

it's useless to confront them so instead of confronting them why not try to modify your resume and write instead the name of a co-worker that is a good friend of yours This might not sound good to you but this can help boost your chance to get interviewed especially if your previous employers really dislike you good luck!
