I've just written an article on this so thought I'd share a few of tips ...

The thing I found with freelance writing when I used to do it was that in the early days you spend about 30% - 40% of your time writing, the rest is marketing yourself. I guess it's the same with most small businesses so you need to brace yourself for that.

The first basic steps:
- attend a course or writing workshop
- develop a portfolio and a 'writers' CV/Resume
- write a blog, submit free articles, write for you local newspaper or free magazine to build up your work and your name
- use the internet to seek out editors and jobs for writers
- Give the first project your best effort, repeat customers are gold!

Hope these help. More at the link in my signature.

modern Clients want 90% writing the rest is marketing....I have got recent experience with many rejected projects...

Today if you deliver quality content, marketing won be required... Smile
