Broke and had to move I was told I was to old at 53 to work any more in Australia

I am an Aussie through and through (Brisbane) but when I was sacked for being to old after working for the same company for 25 years and being in the top three managers world wide I found it hard to get a job I was always told we were looking for some one younger, or we wanted some one who will be with us at least 20 years or more.

As a result of being unemployed and unable to obtian unemployment benifits for my wife of 5 years and my 12 year old step daughter I was forced to live on just a single man rate this was the begining of the end and I am noe divorced

In the end I gave up after sending my resume' to over one thousand companies all the jobs I was qualified to do and supported with two degrees one in Business Management and Sales and Marketing along with 25 years practical know how.

I then submitted my Resume onto the international scene and with in 5 days was approached by a Chinese company to work for them.

With the little I had I packed up and took a chance here, forced to travel because I was old with no money after a bitter divorce I had to take a job to pay the way

Now one year Since I have been here in Shenzhen China I have more than than tripled this companies bottom line and whats more I get paid very well here, do I miss Blue Skies and Australia yes for sure but here I have a future back home I am to old ...even Centrelink came straight out and told me face to face you have almost no chance of scoring a job, now I am 55

Then a thought came to me why is we can make, sell and achieve a good profit on a product like am MP4 player or a DVR and yet in Australia it is sold up to 1000 times more than than we sold it to them for.

I know we have middle men and wholesalers but really some people make a lot of money for doing very little, no wonder we have the highest tax rate in the world and why employers can not afford to pay some one like me with a wealth of Knowledge under my belt.

Do I miss Australia Yes you betya I do but how was I to live when even Centerlink said I have less than 5% chance of finding work you do not need to come in every two weeks ever three months will do

When I make enough money here I will come come and start up own business

It is criminal when you know how much this company I work for sells the product for, and how much you pay

Why???
Kevin Rudd you need to have a look if you wish to reduce Inflation

Excellent post blueAngel.

What was the recruitment like in China ? Was a stright forward send your CV - do interview got the job scenario ? Was it easy to get a work permit ?

Doing a little earning a lot :

I do not blame these people for doing this. Who would not work less and earn more. As long as it is not illegal it's fine. They probably have done more mental work than physical work.
