If you are receiving a pension or monthly social security checks, can you still get unemployment in Michigan?###

Yes; you can work part-time (and with as little as they pay out for disability, heaven knows you probably need to!). I believe there is a cap to the number of hours you can work and still receive benefits, and you'll want to talk to your Social Security contact to find out what that number is. In addition, if you need other assistance such as food stamps, I think you may actually still be required to work at least part-time to be eligible, even if you're on disability because you can't work.

However, it may not be easy to use state agencies to help you find work if you're having trouble. My mother is on disability (she can't work full-time but may be able to pull of a few days a week at 4-5 hours a day) and spent two days calling all over because supposedly they'll help you find work. One agency told her outright "we only help people who are trying to go back to work full-time." (to which she replied, "if I could work full-time, I wouldn't be on disability!")

I think a pension or social security check may cancel out the qualifications for unemployment. See if this helps; it is contact info for Michigan...
