Free Career and Job Search Advice

I am a high school student in th U.A.E who is seriously considering a career in the petroleum industry. But recently while I was doing some research on this field, it came to my attention that it is one of the most dangerous ones to be working in. There seems to be an established correlation between exposure to benzene and incidence of leukemia in rig workers. But of course I don't mean to be one among those toiling in rigs, what i'm aiming at is to supervise rig operations and to design drilling operations. I would highly appreciate it if someone with the knowledge would explain to me the involved occupational hazards of working in this field, their long/short term nature, and the steps that are being taken by the employers to address these concerns.

Dear Ajmal,

If the things you have stated were true indeed, no one would be working in the respective industry anymore. I really doubt there's a direct relation between workers on an Oil rig and leukemia. I think you might be just too little informed about everything. Ok...here's what I can help you with:

I would do some research on accredited health cites and see what information you can find. Anything from one of the companies might be distorted. You might even see if a general search on the internet turns up medications to specifically cure something related to a sickness cause by working in the field. ???? Other than that I have no idea. And just because information doesn't exist now about an illness doesn't mean it won't surface later when a small group of people suddenly become afflicted by an unknown disease/illness.
