Hi,
I want to ask the HR manager to interview for a position in which a colleague has been fired (as of yesterday). The position would be a step up for me, and I feel like I would be qualified considering I worked in a similar position a couple months ago at another company in another city. My company encourages internal growth, asking questions, and having ambitions to move up. I want to notify the HR manager of my interest before she decides to begin interviewing for the position.
So how do I ask without sounding like an opportunist who wants to benefit from someone else's grief? Is that inappropriate?
I know it's "just business," but I want to be considerate... |

Equals you a rare person. What a shame that employers have lost that humanity by calling us "Human Resources." At least there are a few people left, like you, who place humanity ahead of one's mere usefulness as a "resource."
But what's done is done. Apply for the thing and move on.... |
