Hi,
Am I Too Old??.
Ever since I turned 61 years old, I have been facing a lot of difficulty in getting good jobs. I have applied in many companies but I have never received any interview call. I would like to work until 75. I have 10 years of IT industry experience.
I have enough experience that would enable to make a bigger contribution sooner to any company than someone younger and less experienced.
Please suggest me how to get good jobs at this age?
Thanks

Rex, it is admirable that you still want to and you feel capable to work until this age. However, the hiring process is so harsh from this point of view. I'm not trying to insult you but there are others waiting in the row, people with a lot of energy and determination, very strong young people. Sure, they do not have your experience and this is a white flag for you. But are the employers ready to hire you over such people? Maybe some will. This is why you have to search for jobs in the right place.

Just to help you out. But hear this from me, and again, no insult...Wouldn't you rather live a quiet peaceful life of retirement than dieing with the mouse in your hand? These are my grandfather's words by the way: "I've worked for your as*** all my life, I'm 70 now, work your a*** for me too! I want to raise my nephews and play chess with my friends in the park"
Best regards |

This is targeted for someone over the age of fifty but I think you might still find it useful. some employers may shy away from an older person thinking that they are just looking for a few years of work and then will retire, while others have the misconception that an older person may not be as in touch with the IT field as a younger person. Just try to clarify yourself in the interview that you are looking for something to work at for a long time, despite your age, and maybe answer some technical questions to show your skill level.

I'm 55 and I'd never "work" (as in for an employer) another moment in my life if I didn't have to!
And yes, employers loathe "old" people (including me and as often as I've changed jobs, it absolutely DOES get more and more difficult the older one gets and the "experts" who say otherwise are lying lying lying).
