Hi, can someone help me please!!

I've been pretty lucky, I walked into my first job straight from school as the company was owned by a family friend and I'd worked there on and off at weekends during school time. OK, I've been lucky but now comes the hard part because it's time to move on but I've never had to apply for a job before.

How long do I make the cover letter? Do I have to talk about me in it? I mean like how much I want your job or what it means to me to work for your company and all that stuff. I don't want to repeat what I've got on my cv as it's not very long. I'll probably think of more questions later!

Thanks

Alex

Hi cv,

Thanks very much for that. It's great to know I don't have to write a great long letter, I wouldn't want to wreck my chances before they've read my CV!

Hi - I had the interview on Thursday afternoon and yesterday afternoon I got a call from one of the partners to say they were going to take me on! Woohooo!! It's only a junior clerk but the firm seems really great, the pay's better than the animal hospital and I will get some good experience for when I apply to law school. But...they have a small office in London and they said I could even transfer over there for a while if I decided to travel to the UK!!! Cool!!!

Thanks for your help guys!!

Alex:

The cover letter is a tool that allows you to customize your presentation to each company or recruiter you are applying to. Address specific information being requested and needs they are looking to fill compared to the experience and success you have had in previous roles.

Remember, you are selling yourself, so this is a sales pitch that focuses on your value and why you can become a contributing team member.
